    “Salant” vine de la frantuzescul “challer”, care se refera la solduri. Dupa cum se stie, in secolul XIVI, aristocratia franceza purta costumele foarte stranse pe solduri si indreptate in sus. Uptight, cum zic englezii. 😉

    eh, nonagenar tot se mai explica cu nona + age, dar chalant, mai greu 😀

    am gasit insa o posibila explicatie:
    din fr. non+chaloir = lipsa de caldura, de sensibilitate, indiferenta; probabil ca-n romana si-a imbogatit/deviat sensul
